In short, a unique and complete range: from excellent standard varieties to special colours and specials. For each grower in every market segment.

Meet the Breeder:

Ter Laak Orchids

The Ter Laak family has been active in the world of orchids since the early 1980s. It started breeding them in the mid-80s, with the focus on a passion for the product and a distinctive range.

“At the time, all orchid growers cultivated virtually the same range. We wanted to set ourselves apart, so we started with seedlings and our breeding activities have since developed professionally, with applicability, colour, shape and leaf position being the main factors. Ter Laak varieties are known for their high productivity, good shelf life and flower size with midi florets.”

For Ter Laak, expanding and strengthening the range together as breeders is the main reason why it’s brought its own bred varieties to Sion. “Sion sells and promotes our varieties worldwide, so that we can focus on the future, where we still face sufficient challenges when it comes to innovation, shelf life and leaving our footprint”, says Eduard ter Laak.

Every day our team of breeders lovingly and enthusiastically create new and special Phalaenopsis varieties. It all starts in our nursery, where a selection of the strongest and most distinctive mother plants are housed. With years of experience, knowledge of plants and a good dose of imagination, we make the most beautiful crossings with these plants every year. Each new variety has to meet a significant amount of selection criteria. We look at shelf life, growth quality and distinctiveness in the market.

Thanks to the latest techniques and strict selection criteria, only the most distinctive and beautiful varieties remain. What’s more, together with our customers, we extensively test each new variety in practice. The result after proximately 8 years after the first crossing: the most special and distinctive Phalaenopsis varieties.
